On the night of August 27-28, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, using unmanned aerial vehicles (mainly "Shahed" type), ballistic, and long-range missiles. The attack began late in the evening and continued until morning, causing numerous explosions in different districts of the city.
Ukraine's air defense systems were activated, but the attack resulted in significant damage and casualties. At least 8 deaths are known in Kyiv, including one child, President Zelenskyy announced.
The identities of some of the victims have not yet been established. According to Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs, a complex process of identifying the victims lies ahead. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that 38 people were injured as a result of the night attack, 30 of whom are in hospitals. There are at least 5 children among the injured.
Residential buildings were damaged. A kindergarten, a private house, a parking lot, and numerous cars were hit. At least 20 objects in 7 districts of the city sustained damage. Fires broke out, which were extinguished by rescuers and even with the help of aviation.
