"March 1" Case Discussed in the National Assembly
18 NOV 2025 16:10
The authorities have convened a discussion in the National Assembly on the "March 1" case. The Chairman of the Investigative Committee, the Human Rights Defender, and others are present. The opposition is not participating in the discussion. Earlier, the European Court of Human Rights had published its decision in the case of "Farmanyan and Others v. Armenia," which concerned the deaths of 10 citizens during the suppression of mass protests in Yerevan on March 1-2.
The court unanimously ruled that the Armenian authorities had violated the right to life of most of the victims and pointed to the ineffectiveness of the investigation into the tragedy. The ECHR ordered that the relatives of the victims be paid 30,000 euros in compensation for moral damages. In addition, an additional 35,000 euros was awarded to cover legal costs. During today's discussion in the National Assembly, HRD Anahit Manasyan said that we must be able to learn lessons from this event.
