Rescue for Climber Nagovitsina on Pobeda Peak Called Off

25 AUG 2025 10:10
The rescue operation for climber Nagovitsina has been called off. On August 25, a drone was scheduled to be sent to Pobeda Peak to check if the woman was alive.
If signs of life were confirmed, they would attempt to evacuate her with a Eurocopter, which was to be piloted by an Italian. However, due to unfavorable weather conditions, the flight was canceled again.
According to the media, all rescuer-alpinists, including the Italians, packed their tents, left the base camp, and began their descent. Most likely, the bodies of the female climber and the Italian who came to her aid can only be evacuated in the spring.
Natalya Nagovitsina was unable to move due to a broken leg and has been on Pobeda Peak since August 12, at an altitude of about 7200 m. A little below her is the body of the Italian climber who was ascending the peak with Nagovitsina's group and, after her injury, brought her food, a sleeping bag, and a gas burner. Presumably, he died from a head injury.
