Mysterious Pentagon Order: Top Generals Summoned
25 SEP 2025 16:00
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has issued an urgent and unprecedented order to gather hundreds of the country's top generals and admirals at a Marine Corps base in Virginia next week. This highly unusual instruction, given at short notice and without any clear justification, has caused serious confusion and alarm in the highest military circles, especially against the backdrop of a series of dismissals of senior leaders by the Trump administration this year.
On Thursday, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed that Secretary Hegseth "will address his senior military leaders early next week," but declined to provide any additional details. Notably, a senior adviser to the Secretary of Defense expressed no concern about The Washington Post's publication on Tuesday regarding the scheduled meeting.
A total of about 800 generals and admirals serve in the US armed forces, stationed both in the United States and in dozens of other countries and time zones. Hegseth's order, according to informed sources, applies to all officers of the rank of brigadier general (or its naval equivalent) and higher who hold command positions, as well as their senior non-commissioned officer advisors. As a rule, each of these officers commands hundreds or thousands of rank-and-file servicemen.
