Moldova Holds Parliamentary Elections Amid Russia Tensions

Parliamentary elections have started in the Republic of Moldova. 101 deputies of the 12th convocation of the parliament are to be elected, reports Moldpres. More than three million citizens with the right to vote are expected to participate in the elections.

Voters can cast their ballots at 2,274 polling stations opened in the Republic of Moldova and abroad. The voting process began at 07:00 local time and will end at 21:00. 18 parties and 4 independent candidates have submitted applications to enter parliament.

It should be recalled that before the elections, the country's authorities had repeatedly stated that Russia was trying to influence the outcome of the elections in Moldova in various ways. Based on such suspicions, there were arrests before the elections, and even the participation of some political forces was banned due to suspicion of being financed from abroad, that is, from Russia.
