Mirzoyan: Guarantee of Peace is Mutual Benefit

5 NOV 2025 07:35
The peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan is surrounded by conspiracy theories and manipulations, often directed by external geopolitical centers. However, the real guarantee of stable peace is not the intervention of third parties but mutual benefit, from which everyone will profit—from regional actors to Europe and China. This was stated by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a panel discussion at the "Orbeli-2025" forum.
"When the document is signed and made public, all those conspiracy theories naturally vanish into thin air, because people can simply read what is signed and published. And in the end, one question remains: okay, but what is the guarantee that all this will work? The question of a guarantee is indeed substantive, in demand, and requires a substantive discussion," Mirzoyan noted.
He emphasized that the most reliable guarantee of peace is not peacekeepers or the signatures of third countries, but the realization that the agreements reached are beneficial to all parties. "That guarantee is as follows: what has been agreed upon is advantageous and beneficial to Armenia, Azerbaijan, and other countries in the region. It is this mutual benefit that, I believe, will give longevity and a long life to the peace agreement," the minister added.
According to Ararat Mirzoyan, neither Armenia, nor Azerbaijan, nor Turkey will be interested in violating the agreements, as they stem from the interests of all. Regional interconnectedness, particularly the operation of railways, gas pipelines, and other infrastructure, will create a network of economic ties that will unite not only Armenia and Azerbaijan. "It will connect all countries from Europe, the European Union, to the Far East," he said.
Addressing the concern that such interconnectedness could harm Armenia's sovereignty, Mirzoyan countered, insisting that peace will actually only strengthen it. According to him, conflicts create fertile ground for external forces to pursue their own interests and exert pressure on the conflicting parties. "Peace, among other things, will provide an opportunity for both Armenia and Azerbaijan to strengthen and reinforce their sovereignty," the Foreign Minister noted.
