Michel: Ukraine Aid Was Part of EU-US Tariff Deal

The President of the European Council has admitted that Washington's support for Ukraine was part of the EU-US tariff deal. This is reported by Politico.
European Council President Charles Michel has admitted that the war in Ukraine was a factor in the EU's adoption of the highly criticized trade deal with the US, which is a serious deviation from the official position of the EU executive body.
"Of course, we do not welcome the return of tariffs. But with our eastern border under threat, escalating tensions over tariffs with a key ally would be a reckless risk. Stabilizing transatlantic relations and securing US participation for Ukraine's security are top priorities," Michel said in his speech at the Strategic Forum in Slovenia.
As the publication writes, the diplomat's comments contradict the position of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who insists that "the imbalanced agreement establishing a 15% basic tariff for European exports has nothing to do with President Trump's maintenance of support for Ukraine."
