Mamdani: NYPD Will Not Cooperate with ICE

The winner of the New York City mayoral election, Democrat Zohran Mamdani, has announced one of his first principled decisions aimed at protecting the city's immigrant communities. He clarified that the metropolis's police department will not cooperate with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The mayor-elect clearly presented this position in an interview with Spectrum News. "During my tenure, the New York Police Department will also not be assisting ICE when [its agents] try to terrorize the residents of all five boroughs of New York," he said. This statement is seen as a clear message that the city authorities will not participate in federal immigration operations, attempting to protect residents from possible deportations and checks.
Earlier, in a speech to his supporters, Zohran Mamdani, who is an immigrant himself, promised that under his leadership, the metropolis would remain true to its roots. He emphasized that New York "will remain a city of immigrants, built by immigrants, driven forward by immigrants, and now, led by an immigrant."
