"My coming and playing for Armenia will not be taken seriously by me; it is a closed chapter for me." Grandmaster Levon Aronian stated this in an interview with "Radio Liberty."

Addressing the topic that he no longer represents Armenia, Aronian noted that the reason for this decision was the feeling of a lack of respect in Armenia:

"You know, it affects a person when you feel that the attitude towards you is not what you deserve and what you have always fought for. If you allow yourself to be disrespected, you can no longer respect yourself. That's why at that moment it was the step I had to take to continue achieving success in chess and to be able to be useful to Armenia and the Armenian nation," said the chess player.
