Lavrov: Moscow Ready for Ukraine Compromise with US

Moscow is ready to seek compromises on the Ukraine issue if Russia's legitimate security interests are ensured, the Russian Foreign Minister has stated. Sergey Lavrov also touched upon other topics. He expressed confidence that Trump's disappointment with the pace of settlement in Ukraine is partly explained by his desire to find quick solutions, but this does not work everywhere.

Nevertheless, he considers it an important achievement that after the Alaska summit, Trump began to talk not about an ultimatum for peace, but about a long-term settlement, and the US is not departing from this position.

"Unlike other Western leaders, Trump understands the need to address the primary causes of the Ukrainian conflict. The US understands that the situation in Ukraine on the ground is determined not by the desire to 'grab' some territory," emphasized Russia's chief diplomat, adding that Trump has shown that for a settlement, it is necessary to forget about Ukraine's attempts to join NATO. Lavrov does not consider the prospect of new sanctions against Russia to be dangerous for Moscow. Instead, he considers it dangerous that revanchism is gaining strength in Europe not only in Germany but also in Finland.
