Large-Scale Methamphetamine Smuggling Case Uncovered

The General Department for Investigation of Economic Crimes and Smuggling of the RA Investigative Committee has completed the preliminary investigation of a criminal proceeding initiated on the occasion of drug smuggling and illicit trafficking in particularly large quantities.

During the preliminary investigation, as a result of investigative and procedural actions, apparent factual data were obtained that a citizen of the RA illegally acquired a particularly large amount of the drug "Methamphetamine" for the purpose of selling it, which he transported to Armenia hidden under his clothes, where he was arrested by officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' police.

Public criminal prosecution has been initiated against the latter under Article 393, Part 3, Point 2 (Illicit circulation of drugs, psychotropic (psychoactive) substances, their preparations or their equivalent substances (analogs) or their derivatives in particularly large amounts for the purpose of selling them or their illicit sale) and Article 399, Part 3, Point 2 (Smuggling of drugs, psychotropic (psychoactive) substances, their preparations, their equivalent substances (analogs) or their derivatives or their precursors in particularly large amounts) of the Criminal Code.

During the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceeding, public criminal prosecution was also initiated against two other persons under Article 44-393, Part 3, Point 2 of the Criminal Code (Attempted illicit circulation of drugs, psychotropic (psychoactive) substances, their preparations or their equivalent substances (analogs) or their derivatives in particularly large amounts for the purpose of selling them or their illicit sale).

Detention has been applied as a measure of restraint against the three persons.

The criminal proceeding, with the indictment, has been sent to the supervising prosecutor.
