Kazakhstan Considers Baku-Supsa for Oil Exports

Kazakhstan does not rule out the possibility of using the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline for its oil exports if an agreement is reached with Azerbaijan, said the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, reports Report.
"We are considering all routes for the export of Kazakh oil, including Baku-Supsa. I did not say that it is not commercially attractive. But if we look at it geographically, our oil now passes through the Atyrau-Samara system and directly reaches the Black Sea through the territory of the Russian Federation. That is, we hand it over in Kazakhstan and receive the same volume of oil on the Black Sea coast in Novorossiysk," the minister explained.
According to him, the export of Kazakh oil through the Baku-Supsa pipeline, with loading and unloading operations in the ports of Aktau and Baku, will be more expensive than supplies via the Russian route.
"Baku-Supsa is currently used for technical oil, and it can be used if Kazakhstan reaches an agreement with the Azerbaijani side," Akkenzhenov said.
It should be noted that currently only separate batches of oil are transported through the Baku-Supsa pipeline. Thus, according to the annual report of the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, 90 thousand tons of oil were pumped through it in 2024, and 150 thousand tons in 2023. BP-Azerbaijan has stated that the Baku-Supsa pipeline is not frozen and is fully ready to start transporting oil at any time.
