Kallas Calls Potential Putin Visit to Hungary 'Unpleasant'

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has described the possible visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Hungary as "unpleasant." "It is unpleasant to see that the man for whom the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant is visiting a European country," Kallas said.
She added that the question is whether any result will come from that visit. Before the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, Kallas stated that she expects the 19th package of sanctions against Russia to be adopted this week, but not today.
Referring to the role of the US, Kallas noted: "The US has many opportunities to put pressure on Russia to bring it to the negotiating table." "If they use that leverage to make Russia stop this war, that is, of course, good," she added.
According to Kallas, however, it is extremely important that a direct meeting takes place between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
