Japan is experiencing unprecedentedly hot weather. From July 28 to August 3, more than 9,500 people were taken to the hospital with heatstroke. 18 of them died. 225 of these people were hospitalized in serious condition.
About 60% of the heatstroke victims were over 65 years old.
Hot weather has been recorded in Japan since June.
A temperature of 41.8 degrees Celsius was recorded in the shade in the city of Isesaki on August 5. This is an absolute record in Japan since the second half of the 19th century.
