Today, on September 29, the Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Armenia, Aoki Yutaka, signed the "Agreement on the Provision of a Grant for 'Economic and Social Development' in the form of an exchange of notes between the Republic of Armenia and Japan." This is reported by the Ministry of Environment of the RA.
Under the agreement, the Government of Japan provides Armenia with about 1.7 million USD, which will be directed to the modernization of air quality monitoring stations and the acquisition of equipment carried out by the "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" SNCO of the Ministry of Environment of the RA.
This step will provide an opportunity to continuously and systematically develop the air pollution monitoring system, increase data quality control, strengthen the reliability of forecasts, and ensure the formation of a healthy and stable environment.
Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan assured that the cooperation will contribute to environmental protection, mitigation of the effects of climate change, development of sustainable cities, and protection of citizens' health.
He added that with state funding, two modern reference monitoring stations have already been acquired in 2024, and this grant from the Government of Japan is an important continuation of the reforms being implemented by the ministry.
