Jailed Mayor of Masis Resigns from Community Council

"To protect the position of the head of the community from the authorities' false legal and administrative machinations, today I have applied to terminate my powers as a member of the council of elders." Davit Hambardzumyan wrote this in a message sent from the "Nubarashen" penitentiary.

"I will continue to keep your concerns and the future of my community at the center of my care and efforts, to the best of my ability. The political team to whom you once again entrusted the leadership of the community with your vote will continue to act within the framework of the pre-election promises we made, implementing numerous programs aimed at improving your lives. I am strong because of you, my dear Masis, and I cannot allow you to be weakened on the occasion of my imprisonment, for the current regime to seize power in our community under that pretext. I am leaving the council of elders, but I am not leaving Masis. I ask you, together with the municipal authorities, to continue to create, work, live, and remain dignified Armenians, for the sake of the future of our community and our country," wrote Davit Hambardzumyan.
