Nowadays, we can meet superheroes not only in movies but also in real life. Experts from the Italian Institute of Technology have created a flying robot named iRonCub3. This is reported by authoritative international media. The engineers noted that as a result of further developments, the robot will also serve to find victims in emergency situations and transmit data.
What technologies did the specialists use so that the robot could fly?
During the latest tests, iRonCub3 demonstrated the ability to reach a height of about 50 centimeters and maintain its balance in the air. This 70-kilogram robot has a backpack with two jet engines on its back, and two motion accelerators instead of hands. The maximum thrust of the engines is 1000 Newtons, and the temperature of the exhaust gases reaches 800 °C. The robot's system also includes artificial intelligence (AI), thanks to which it is able to orient itself correctly in space and analyze the situation.
For now still a flying robot, and in the future also a rescuer-robot
Although the specialists have so far only tested iRonCub3's flying technique, in the future they also plan to use the robot to collect information during emergencies and disasters. That is, thanks to the cameras and sensors installed on it, the robot will be able to fix the location of the disaster, reach it, and transmit the received data. Such situations could be a fire, an accident, an earthquake, or a chemical leak. Thanks to its extremely durable construction, the robot is resistant in places where it is dangerous or impossible to send people.
"Iron Man" as a source of inspiration for creating the robot
The creators of the robot say that the prototype for iRonCub3 is the character Tony Stark from the Marvel Comics "Iron Man" movie, who, after being wounded in Afghanistan, creates the "Iron Man" armor for his rescue and protection.
Like "Iron Man," iRonCub3 also has a fairly durable construction and is covered with a heat-resistant layer to protect against fires.
