Iran's Security Council Approves New IAEA Cooperation Deal
14 SEP 2025 09:24
Iran's Security Council has approved a new agreement on cooperation with the IAEA, Iranian sources report. The Islamic Republic's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, in turn, noted that the new law clarified the scope of cooperation with the agency but did not completely block the channels of interaction.
"The text of the agreement's clauses was discussed by the Security Council's nuclear committee, and everything signed was essentially approved by that committee," the NourNews agency quoted a part of the statement. The document notes that the committee was authorized to act and make decisions on behalf of the Security Council in this matter.
It is recalled that on June 25, members of the Iranian parliament approved the text of a bill to suspend cooperation between the Islamic Republic and the IAEA. On July 2, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed the law. Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, in turn, noted that the new law clarified the scope of cooperation with the IAEA but did not completely block the channels of interaction and left the solution of this issue to the discretion of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.
On September 9, Iran and the IAEA signed an agreement in Egypt to resume cooperation, which had been suspended after the attacks carried out by Israel and the US in June, as the lack of condemnation by the IAEA of the countries that struck the nuclear facilities had caused criticism in Iran. As the Iranian Foreign Minister clarified after signing the document, the new regulation of cooperation between Tehran and the agency fully complies with the requirements of both sides. However, he added that in the event of the resumption of any hostile actions against the Islamic Republic, all ties with the IAEA will be severed.
