Iranian President Speaks Out Against Forced Hijab

In an interview with NBC News, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has spoken out against the requirement for women to wear the hijab. The interview was conducted with a state translator who translated in real-time.
"People have the right to choose," Pezeshkian said in an interview with Tom Llamas when answering a question about Mahsa Amini. Mahsa Amini died three years ago after being arrested by Iran's morality police. This sparked nationwide protests. "We did not have proper management and implementation of our internal problems," Pezeshkian noted in response to a question about the incident. He emphasized that the world is "exaggerating the situation," while hundreds of people are being killed every day in many countries.
"Of course, every human life is precious," he said. "But every day hundreds of people are dying in Lebanon, in Gaza, throughout Palestine, in Yemen, and in Syria, and no one bats an eye. Why? Are they less human?"
