The Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchiloo, said in an interview with Azerbaijani media that the construction of a new bridge connecting Iran and Azerbaijan over the Araz River in the Aghband-Kalaleh region is planned to be completed by the end of the year.
He emphasized that about 63 percent of the construction work has already been completed. Demirchiloo noted that work is now underway to expand the highway leading to Jolfa on the Iranian side. The project to expand the highway from Kalaleh to Jolfa includes the construction of several tunnels.
"This highway is being built with Iran's own funds. It will allow Azerbaijani citizens to move more easily and safely between Nakhichevan and the rest of Azerbaijan," Demirchiloo said. He added that Iran aims to increase its annual trade with Azerbaijan in two key areas, "reflecting the growing economic ties between the two countries."
