Inmates Assault Staff at Artik Penitentiary

Recently, the work to combat criminal subculture and prohibited items, the removal of unauthorized items and furniture that does not meet established standards from cells, and other lawful actions in the "Artik" penitentiary of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia have caused dissatisfaction among the inmates, which were accompanied by illegal demands. This is reported by the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.

"On October 24, during the implementation of the next aforementioned actions by the staff, the inmates disrupted the normal work of the institution, showed disobedience, disrespectful attitude, and openly aggressive behavior, using physical force against the staff. As a result of the explanatory and preventive work carried out by the penitentiary staff, the situation has been resolved. Currently, the situation in the "Artik" penitentiary is stable and is under full control," the statement said, reminding that such manifestations of disobedience are illegal and give rise to grounds for criminal liability established by law.
