On November 19, Indonesia's Semeru volcano, which is the highest mountain on the island of Java (over 3600 meters), erupted with a series of explosions. According to Indonesia's Strategic Center, the volcano released clouds of hot ash, a mixture of lava, rocks, and gases, which spread up to 7 km.
The height of the ash column reached 2 kilometers. During the day, the danger level was raised twice, reaching the fourth, highest level. The event led to ash rain in several villages, but there are no casualties. Local residents are advised to stay away from the volcano.
