Protesters Burn Parliament in Indonesia; Three Killed

On August 29, in Makassar, the capital of Indonesia's South Sulawesi province, three people were killed and five were injured after protesters set fire to the regional parliament building. The protests, which erupted in many cities, including Jakarta, were initially sparked by public outrage over lawmakers' salaries, which amount to 50 million rupiah ($3,075) a month.
The situation escalated on Friday when an armored police vehicle fatally ran over a motorcycle delivery driver. The Antara news agency reported that the deceased were presumably trapped in the burning building. And the 5 injured are those who were hurt as a result of jumping from the windows of the burning building.
