Hegseth Summons Top Brass for Emergency Pentagon Meeting
28 SEP 2025 07:19
Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth has ordered an emergency and large-scale consultation, summoning hundreds of generals and admirals from around the world. This unprecedented meeting, to be held at the Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia, aims to discuss issues related to military culture, standards, and the "warrior ethos," as reported by The Washington Post, citing informed sources.
The meeting comes amid Hegseth's development of an ambitious reform plan for the military command structure. Proposed changes include a 20% reduction in the number of generals and admirals and the consolidation of combatant commands. These initiatives have raised serious concerns among the senior officer corps regarding potential dismissals and demotions.
Some Pentagon officials question the necessity of such a large-scale gathering, especially for a speech scheduled to last only a few minutes. In their view, questioning the professionalism of officers with combat experience and offering them fundamental instructions is a controversial step at best. This move is seen by many as unprecedented, as global commanders have not been summoned on such short notice and without a clear agenda in recent decades.
Hegseth's upcoming speech is expected to be the first in a series of lectures. The second lecture is planned to be dedicated to the defense industry, and the third to deterrence strategy. The latter is scheduled to take place in December during the National Defense Forum in California.
These events follow Hegseth's order to develop plans for significant cuts to the Pentagon's budget. These steps, combined with the mass summons of high-ranking military officials, deepen the atmosphere of uncertainty within the leadership of the U.S. armed forces, creating an atmosphere of tense anticipation and change.
