Gyumri Mayor Sues NA Deputy Speaker for Defamation

The head of the Gyumri community, Vardan Ghukasyan, has filed a lawsuit against the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Ruben Rubinyan, and the Republic of Armenia. He demands not only the refutation of information constituting defamation but also the recognition of the violation of his presumption of innocence and payment of compensation. In various posts on his Facebook page, Ruben Rubinyan called Vardan Ghukasyan a "bribetaking scumbag" after Ghukasyan was charged in a criminal case being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Committee.

Specifically, in one of the publications, R. Rubinyan wrote next to Vardan Ghukasyan's photo: "6 months and 1 day. According to the Anti-Corruption Committee, this is exactly how long it took for this one to return to his favorite activity of bribery and get caught.

Those who made him mayor bear political responsibility for this: Kocharyan, Sargsyan, Vanetsyan, the Dashnaktsutyun, and others. The one who blessed him is also responsible: 'Ktrich' Nersisyan with his archbishops yearning to seize power. And they want to repeat this on a national scale in 2026, to come back and resume their plunder. We will not allow it."
