Gyumri Mayor Appeals to Citizens, Council Appeals to Ambassadors

The head of the Gyumri community, Vardan Ghukasyan, has addressed the people with an appeal.

"At this moment, actions are underway in the city hall aimed at removing the mayor. But we must understand this is not just about one person; this is about the independence of the entire city. The state should not violate Gyumri's autonomy. We, the people of Gyumri, are obliged to preserve our right to elect and protect our mayor," Vardan Ghukasyan wrote on his Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the Armenian Communist Party faction of the Gyumri Council of Elders has appealed to the ambassadors accredited in the RA, urging them to come and familiarize themselves with the situation on the ground.

"Dear Ambassadors, in recent days, the authorities of the RA, through the more consistent use of various political and forceful means, are carrying out a political vendetta and persecution against the mayor of Gyumri. The political persecution intensified after Nikol Pashinyan's public statement to carry out political persecution and repression against the mayor of Gyumri," the statement was read by Lilit Aghekyan, the press secretary of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan.
