In Kebbi state in northwestern Nigeria, a group of armed criminals broke into a boarding school in the town of Maga, brutally killing a teacher and a guard and kidnapping 25 female students. This was reported by the local police, noting that the incident occurred early in the morning, around four o'clock.
According to preliminary data, the criminals arrived at the school on motorcycles. They first broke into the teacher's house and shot him, then killed the school guard, after which they broke into the girls' dormitories and kidnapped them.
According to a police official, Kotarkosi, the attackers were armed with modern weapons and engaged in a firefight with security personnel. Currently, special units are checking the alleged retreat routes of the criminals and the surrounding forests, trying to find the kidnappers and free the girls. Residents report at least two dead.
"We were told they came on many motorcycles. First, they went straight to the teacher's house and killed him, after which they shot the guard," said local resident Abdulkarim Maga.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Many armed gangs operate in Nigeria, engaged in kidnapping for ransom. This phenomenon has particularly worsened since 2014, when militants from the terrorist group "Boko Haram" kidnapped 276 schoolgirls in the town of Chibok. Since that tragic event, at least 1,500 students have been kidnapped in the country, which has become a serious challenge for the country's security and education system.
