300,000-Year-Old Mystery Skull Discovered in Greece

A skull approximately 300,000 years old has been discovered in Greece. Studies have shown that this skull belongs neither to Homo sapiens nor to Neanderthals, but represents a separate branch of ancient humans that existed at the same time as Neanderthals.

According to an article published in the Journal of Human Evolution, the skull was discovered in 1960, and since then, scientists have been debating its origin. Previously, it was classified as Homo sapiens or Neanderthal, but new research shows that it belongs to an unknown group of ancient humans, possibly Homo heidelbergensis.

This species was widespread in Europe and Africa about 300,000 years ago and is considered an ancestor of both Neanderthals and Homo sapiens.
