For the first time in 35 years, the German Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance has warned the population about war. Euronews reports this. The agency has published a new guide containing instructions on what to do in a crisis.
Against the backdrop of Russia's nearly 4-year-long war against Ukraine, the German Civil Protection Office has proposed concrete changes after many citizens expressed concern to the agency about the war.
It also includes how to cope with fears and anxiety in emergency situations. Since the publication of the first guide in 1990, military scenarios have not been mentioned in this guide.
The main focus was primarily on natural disasters and technical failures. Now, for the first time, hybrid threats are also specifically mentioned: cyberattacks on critical infrastructure, disinformation strategies, sabotage, and wars.
A survey conducted by the agency showed that 53% of respondents in Germany have not taken any measures to prepare for emergencies.
The guide aims to create a basis for supporting German households in their preparedness for emergencies.
