Germany Urges US to Join in Ukraine Security Guarantees

On August 24, during the German government's open door day, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that after a peace agreement, Ukraine needs security guarantees as close as possible to NATO membership.

This is reported by Deutsche Welle. "We cannot demand that Ukraine seriously consider territorial concessions if it does not receive at least real security guarantees from as many states as possible, which will ensure the security of at least the remaining territory."

The head of German diplomacy emphasized that security guarantees for Ukraine should be provided not only by European countries. He called for expanding the circle of guarantor states and also involving Washington in this process.According to him, about 30 states, including Japan, have already announced their readiness to support Ukraine.

At the same time, Wadephul warned that "a violation of the security guarantee would be an attack on Ukraine." He emphasized that a peace treaty with Russia should not become a "dictated peace" to the detriment of Ukraine.

The German Foreign Minister called on Putin to stop the aggressive war and sit down at the negotiating table. "Otherwise, he will have to reckon with our decisive resistance on the part of Ukraine," Wadephul warned.
