Germany to Spend €10 Billion on Bunkers and Shelters

Germany intends to allocate 10 billion euros for the creation of bunkers, shelters, and other means of population protection. The large-scale program to strengthen the civil security system is to be implemented by 2029. Bild reports this, citing Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt.
The funds will be directed towards new fire and medical vehicles, equipment for rescue services, mobile reporting points, as well as the development of digital communication and warning systems. It is planned to create and update protective shelters, of which there are currently only 579 left in the country. Joint exercises between rescue services and the Bundeswehr will also be conducted. Special attention will be paid to restoring the siren system and introducing modern notification systems via mobile phones.
Dobrindt noted that the increase in international crises, extremist threats, and hybrid attacks, primarily from Russia, requires Germany's enhanced preparedness for possible emergencies.
