German Army Acquires "Submarine Hunters" to Deter Russia

Germany has received a new generation of reconnaissance aircraft designed to detect underwater targets and combat submarines. The first of eight P-8A Poseidon type aircraft transferred from the USA to Germany has landed at Berlin Airport, where it was personally met by the country's Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius.
"Der Spiegel," quoting the minister, notes that these aircraft will play a key role in Germany's defense policy. "Germany's contribution to deterrence in the Far North, where many countries are active, primarily Russia, will be largely based on this aircraft," Pistorius stated.
The P-8A Poseidon was created on the basis of the well-known Boeing 737 passenger aircraft. With a length of almost 40 meters, it is now considered the largest combat aircraft in the German Air Force.
The aircraft's capabilities allow it to monitor vast sea areas, track ship movements, and detect submarines using modern radar, acoustic, and optical systems. After detection, it can destroy targets with torpedoes or depth charges.
The new reconnaissance aircraft will be permanently based at the Nordholz air base near the city of Cuxhaven.
