Georgia Slams EU for 'Frivolous' Ministerial Snub

Official Tbilisi has harshly criticized the European Union for inviting Georgia to the ministerial meeting on communication issues to be held in Luxembourg on October 20 only at the ambassadorial level. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has described this move by EU institutions as "a frivolous attitude," noting that such an approach ignores both geopolitical and geographical realities.
The ministry emphasized that the foreign ministers of the countries of Central Asia and the Eastern Partnership—Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan—were invited to the meeting. The Georgian Foreign Ministry considers it unacceptable to send an invitation to its country at the ambassadorial level and notes that the justifications for such a decision remain incomprehensible.
It is noted that Georgia had informed the European External Action Service of its position in advance. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the republic's participation in important discussions on communication and regional security should take place at the appropriate level and be in the interests of the EU member states.
The ministry also noted that the invitation at the ambassadorial level could be seen as an attempt to use the issue of Georgia's participation in political speculation and to contribute to a radical agenda and internal polarization. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed hope that the majority of EU member states realize Georgia's role in communication between Europe and Asia and do not support such an approach.
