Georgia Not Invited to EU Enlargement Forum in Brussels
12 NOV 2025 05:55
The cold period in relations between Georgia and the European Union continues. The European Commission has officially announced that it has not invited representatives of Georgia to the forum dedicated to EU enlargement, which is scheduled to be held on November 18 in Brussels. This is a clear signal in diplomatic language that Tbilisi's European integration process has not only stalled but is also regressing.
This information was confirmed by a European Commission representative, Mercien, during a briefing. According to him, this decision is not accidental. A report published earlier by the European Commission states that Brussels now considers Georgia merely a "nominal candidate" for EU membership. This means that the country's status has largely lost its political weight and is of a formal nature.
The reason, as Mercien emphasized, is that the European Commission accuses Georgia of "backsliding from democratic norms and European values." In fact, Brussels is showing that the domestic policy pursued by the Georgian authorities contradicts the principles on which the European Union is based.
