France is significantly strengthening its military capabilities by adopting the new ASMPA-R missile, capable of carrying a nuclear charge, into its arsenal. The country's Ministry of Defense announced this after the second successful test of the missile from a Rafale fighter jet.
The ASMPA-R missile is a medium-range air-to-ground weapon. As noted in the military department's statement, it was officially adopted into the armament of the naval nuclear air force (FANU) from November 10.
This is not the only step in the modernization of France's nuclear deterrence system. At the end of October, the ministry also announced the adoption of the new M51.3 intercontinental ballistic missiles. They will be deployed on Triomphant-class nuclear submarines.
