Titled "We Are Our Mountains," the work retraces the history of Artsakh through the visual language of the comic strip, blending art and historical memory.
Conceived and scripted by the French-Armenian director Gorune Aprikian, the book was co-written with Jean-Blaise Djian and illustrated by the Italian artist Maria Riccio.
The story begins in 1990, when Élise, a French journalist, goes to Artsakh to cover the war of liberation. Through her eyes, the reader follows the key moments of contemporary history: the struggle for survival, the 44-day war, the blockade, and the forced exodus of the Armenian population.
For Gorune Aprikian, this first comic book on Artsakh is a true act of memory: "This book will allow us to understand, to feel, and never to forget Artsakh."
"The loss of Artsakh is a mourning. When you miss someone, you say to yourself: I should have hugged them more often." — Gorune Ap-rikian
