Finland intends to impose customs duties on all goods imported from the Russian Federation. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland, Elina Valtonen, in Warsaw after a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski. Valtonen emphasized that Finland and Poland are united in their unwavering support for Ukraine.
In a speech at a conference dedicated to the "Human Dimension" in Warsaw, Valtonen noted:
"We must clearly understand the challenges we face. Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine is not only a gross violation of international law but also an encroachment on the principles underlying the Helsinki Final Act. This is a direct encroachment on Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and a gross rejection of the norms that have ensured peace in Europe for decades."
She also stressed that forced deportations, attacks on civilians, and war crimes are not only violations of international law but also "an attack on humanity itself."
In her X microblog, the Finnish minister wrote that Finland and Poland are united not only by the Baltic Sea but also by a common desire to make Europe safer and more prosperous. "We remain steadfast in our support for Ukraine and in our efforts to weaken Russia's ability to continue its aggressive war," she noted.
In turn, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, stated that Finland remains one of his country's most reliable partners in the EU and NATO. He noted the common position of Warsaw and Helsinki on the use of frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.
Sikorski also praised Finland's civil defense system and called for continued joint efforts in the fight against the Russian "shadow fleet." According to the Polish diplomat, it poses a serious threat to both maritime security and the ecosystem of the Baltic Sea.
