Fátima Bosch Fernández from Mexico won the "Miss Universe" beauty pageant. The jury awarded second place to Praveenar Singh of Thailand. The final of the 74th beauty pageant took place in Bangkok. The Venezuelan contestant, Stefany Adriana Abasali Nasser, took third place.
The new "Miss Universe" is a fashion designer and volunteer from the city of Teapa, Tabasco state. She is the fourth Mexican to win the prestigious beauty contest. Previous "Miss Universe" crown holders from Mexico include Lupita Jones (1991), Ximena Navarrete (2010), and Andrea Meza (2020).
Experts have called the 2025 contest "exceptionally chaotic." Several scandals erupted during the preparations for the final. For example, the future winner had a conflict with the organizers, refusing to participate in a sponsored photoshoot. Two judges also resigned, and one contestant was injured during the qualifying rounds and hospitalized.
Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark became the winner of "Miss Universe 2024." She is the first Danish woman to win the crown. Theilvig is a European and world champion dancer, as well as a businesswoman and law student.
In the same year, an 81-year-old participant from South Korea reached the final of the national "Miss Universe" competition.
Choi Sun Hwa, who began her modeling career at the age of 70, was able to participate in the contest because the organizers had lifted the age restriction; previously, only women under 28 were allowed to compete. Choi Sun Hwa did not win, but the jury recognized her nonetheless. She received the award for the best dress.
