Farewell Reception for Ambassador Lilit Makunts in Washington

On August 22, a farewell reception was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the USA in honor of RA Ambassador to the USA Lilit Makunts, on the occasion of the end of her term in office.

The event was attended by high-ranking US officials, representatives of the Kansas National Guard and leading bipartisan think tanks, Honorary Consuls of the Republic of Armenia in the USA, as well as representatives of the Armenian community in the USA.

In her farewell speech, referring to her four-year term, Ambassador Makunts expressed her deep gratitude. She highlighted the initialing of the historic peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington on August 8 as a most important event brought to life through the mediation of President Donald Trump.

Ambassador Makunts noted that a key element for the future course and stability of relations between the two countries is the transition of Armenian-American relations to the level of a strategic partnership.

The Ambassador expressed her sincere gratitude to the United States and all her partners for their continued support, reaffirmed the strength of Armenian-American ties based on common democratic values, and emphasized the contribution of the Armenian community over the decades.

The Ambassador also expressed her deep gratitude to the embassy staff for their service and dedication, as well as to her family for their unwavering support throughout her service.

The evening concluded with a symbolic moment: Ambassador Makunts was awarded the "Medal of Excellence" by the Kansas National Guard in recognition of her four years of impeccable service and significant contribution to the bilateral security cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the Kansas National Guard.
