After a powerful earthquake in Kamchatka, the extinct Krasheninnikov volcano has erupted for the first time in recorded history. The Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT) of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, reported that ash emissions are reaching a height of 5-6 km above sea level.
The volcano's height is 1856 meters. A lava flow continues down the southwestern slope of the volcano. The length of the flow, according to researchers, has already reached 2.7 km. The volcano belongs to the Eastern volcanic belt and is located in the Kronotsky Reserve, about 13 km south of Kronotskoye Lake and 200 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Kamchatka Krai reported that the Krasheninnikov volcano has been assigned an "orange" aviation hazard code.
