Evidence Found in Merdzavan Murder Case; One Arrested

As a result of large-scale complex operational-intelligence measures undertaken by officers of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Security Service during the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings initiated in connection with the murder in Merdzavan, one person has been arrested and brought to the preliminary investigation body on the grounds of suspicion arising directly from the commission of the crime.

This is reported by the Investigative Committee. As a result of urgent actions carried out during the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings, overt traces confirming the latter's connection to the act, which are prohibited by the Criminal Code, were discovered in a building belonging to the detainee, including the mask, gloves, shoes, jacket, and night vision device used at the time of the crime, which the latter tried to destroy by burning.

During the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings, numerous evidentiary and procedural actions are being carried out to clarify the full circumstances of the case, including the direction of discovering the automatic weapon that was the instrument of the crime.

The Investigative Committee assures that the bodies carrying out operational-intelligence activities have full control of the operational situation, and the preliminary investigation body, using the permissible toolkit provided for by the Criminal Procedure Code, will take the necessary measures to implement the principle of the inevitability of criminal liability, as well as to ensure the comprehensiveness of the preliminary investigation.

Given the public resonance of the criminal proceedings, the Investigative Committee has promised to periodically issue a statement on the results of the investigation within the limits of permissibility provided by law.
