The European Parliament is sending a clear and unequivocal message, declaring its readiness to support Armenia in the process of joining the European Union. This important announcement was made by the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Younous Omarjee, during the 12th plenary session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly held in Yerevan. He was speaking on behalf of the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
In his speech, Omarjee emphasized that the recent decisions adopted by Armenia testify to the country's clear political will and aspiration to join the European family. He specifically referred to the law adopted by the Armenian parliament in March 2025, which launches the process of applying for EU membership.
"Armenia's decisions, especially the recent ones, are extremely important. Armenia has adopted a historic law, sending a clear and strong message, declaring that it sees its future as part of Europe. This is not just a symbolic gesture, but a strategic choice to join the family of European democracy," stated the Vice-President of the European Parliament.
He reaffirmed the European Parliament's commitment to stand by Armenia on this path. "The European Parliament is ready to support Armenia on this historic journey if you decide to officially submit your candidacy for EU membership," Omarjee said, clarifying that the support will be tangible and consistent. Younous Omarjee stressed that Armenia's European direction is strengthened by the practical and tangible cooperation already established between the EU and Armenia. He singled out the economic sector and the Eastern Partnership investment programs as prime examples of this partnership.
"In addition to political statements, there is also a real, tangible partnership, especially in the economy and within the framework of the Eastern Partnership investment programs. We are joining our efforts to create new jobs, modern infrastructure, and new opportunities for young Armenians," he noted.
The Vice-President of the European Parliament expressed optimism about the future, stressing that with joint efforts, it is possible to achieve significant results. "When the European Union and Armenia move forward together, they can build a more prosperous and just future for all," Omarjee emphasized, reaffirming the readiness to keep Europe's doors open to Armenia.
