EU Suspects Trump is Sabotaging New Russia Sanctions

European diplomats suspect that Trump has deliberately put forward impossible demands to disrupt new sanctions against Russia. The Wall Street Journal writes about this. Washington is demanding that the EU completely abandon purchases of Russian oil and gas, as well as impose tariffs on goods imported from China and India.
For Europe, this is a blow to a vulnerable point, as energy dependence is still a serious problem. In addition, severing ties with China, as Trump demands, would deal a heavy blow to the EU economy. Moreover, all decisions in the EU are made unanimously, and Trump's favorite, Budapest, has no desire to give up Russian oil.
Hungary and Slovakia have already announced that they will veto any initiative that threatens their economies. The EU also suspects that Trump may be pursuing commercial goals, trying to force Europe to buy more American liquefied natural gas.
In parallel, there are fears that if not applied in full, the new package of sanctions will not have the expected effect on Russia. Moreover, Moscow has managed to noticeably improve its relations with India and China in recent months.
