China is ready to send peacekeepers to Ukraine, but Europe has concerns, writes Welt am Sonntag. Citing diplomats close to PRC government circles, the newspaper notes that Beijing agrees to participate only if the mission is carried out under a UN mandate. In Brussels, such statements have not been received unequivocally.

On the one hand, China's involvement could accelerate the adoption of a decision on the deployment of international forces, but on the other hand, there are also concerns.

"There is a risk that China, first of all, seeks to conduct intelligence in the territory of Ukraine," stated one of the high-ranking EU diplomats familiar with the current discussions, and added that in the event of an escalation of the conflict, Beijing is more likely to take a pro-Russian rather than a neutral position.
