Charlie Kirk Assassinated During Speech at University of Utah

11 SEP 2025 07:01
Political activist, conservative figure, and supporter of US President Donald Trump, Charlie Kirk, was killed on September 10 during a speech at the University of Utah. According to media reports, emergency paramedics arrived at the scene immediately but were unable to save his life. The alleged perpetrator who inflicted the gunshot wound on Kirk has been arrested. Hours later, flags on Utah state buildings were lowered, and several conservative governors across the US followed suit. The TPUSA headquarters in Phoenix lowered its flag in mourning, while students at dozens of college chapters held candlelight vigils.
Donald Trump, who was at a campaign rally in the Midwest at the time, reportedly froze upon hearing the news. Eyewitnesses close to him described the former president as being speechless for a moment, visibly shaken by the murder of a man who had become both a loyal ally and a personal friend. Hours later, Trump addressed the event. In his speech, the US President called Kirk "a brilliant, courageous, and patriotic young man who loved America with all his heart." He described the murder as a "barbaric act of political violence aimed at silencing one of the strongest voices for freedom."
Trump even spoke about his personal connection with Kirk, noting that he had known him since he was a teenager and had watched him build Turning Point USA into a national powerhouse.
The reaction extended beyond the circle of Trump and his allies. President Joe Biden issued a statement calling the murder a "tragedy for America" and condemning all forms of political violence. Lawmakers from both parties expressed their condolences, although some critics also raised the question of whether the heated political atmosphere, often fueled by Kirk's divisive rhetoric, had created fertile ground for such an attack.
So, who was Charlie Kirk? Born on October 14, 1993, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, USA. He grew up in a conservative family, was actively involved in politics and youth activities from an early age, and was known for combining evangelical Christian values with conservative political activism. In 2021, he married podcaster and former Miss Arizona USA, Erika Frantzve.
At the age of 18, in 2012, Kirk co-founded Turning Point USA, a youth-oriented conservative organization. Under his leadership, it grew rapidly, becoming a prominent force among young American conservatives.
He spread his message across numerous platforms: podcasts, radio shows ("The Charlie Kirk Show"), social media, and university tours. His ability to connect with college students and a young audience played a central role in his influence.
Kirk became a close ally of Donald Trump and was influential in the conservative movement, particularly in shaping cultural debates (on free speech, education, social issues) and mobilizing young people. He acted as a strong voice in the cultural divide between Republicans/liberals and conservatives in the US. He also gained recognition: in 2018, he was included in Forbes' "30 Under 30" list in the Law & Policy category, and received honorary titles and appointments, such as participation in commissions on patriotic education.
He was killed at the age of 31.
