Ceasefire Possible at Zaporizhzhia NPP for Repairs

A decision on a temporary cessation of hostilities to repair the power lines of Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) could be made as early as October 17.
It is reported that the establishment of a "regime of silence" will make it possible to repair the two damaged power lines leading to the plant. One of them is located in the territory controlled by Russia, and the other is under the control of the Ukrainian side. This step is considered important from the perspective of ensuring nuclear safety.
The head of "Rosatom," Likhachev, noted that this is a rather complex decision that requires a fair balance. "It is very preliminary and intermediate, but it is possible that such a decision will be implemented as early as tomorrow," he stated.
Currently, the Zaporizhzhia NPP, considered the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, is not generating electricity. However, it continues to receive external electricity supply to ensure the cooling of nuclear fuel and to avoid a serious accident. The safe operation of the plant is directly dependent on the stability of the power supply, which further emphasizes the urgent need for the restoration of the damaged lines, failure of which could have catastrophic consequences for Ukraine and Russia, as well as for neighboring countries.
