Catholicos Aram I Condemns Arrests of Armenian Clergy

Catholicos Aram I strongly condemns the ongoing arrest of Armenian clergymen. The Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia has issued a statement on this matter.

"His Holiness, being currently on a pastoral visit and closely aware of the ongoing arrests, once again condemns this unacceptable phenomenon. At the same time, His Holiness has instructed Archbishop Shahan Sarkissian, who is currently in Armenia on a cultural mission, to convey his concern and condemnation to the political and state officials, and even to the Prime Minister. The approach of His Holiness is that the current unhealthy state of state-church relations must be brought to an end as soon as possible, and the supreme interests of our nation and Homeland demand that the relationship between the two important pillars of our nation—the state and the church—be close and strong," the statement says in particular.
