On October 13, a bilateral meeting took place in Baku between the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Alexey Overchuk. The focus of the meeting was the discussion of the current state and development prospects of economic cooperation between the two countries in various directions.
The parties noted with satisfaction the positive dynamics of trade and economic ties. It was mentioned that in 2024, the trade turnover between the two countries increased by more than 10%. This positive trend has been maintained in the current year as well: during the first 8 months of 2025, the trade turnover, compared to the same period last year, increased by 13.5%, amounting to 3 billion 350 million dollars.
Special attention was paid to the growth of cargo transportation volumes through the "North-South" international transport corridor. According to the data for the first 9 months of 2025, the total volume of cargo transportation through this corridor increased by 8.3%. In this growth, 10.4% is accounted for by road transport, and 2% by rail transport, which testifies to the growing strategic importance of the corridor.
The participants of the meeting exchanged views on the effective use of the existing potential for cooperation, the further expansion of mutual ties, and the implementation of new joint initiatives.
