Azerbaijan to Cut Defense and Security Spending

The government of Azerbaijan intends to significantly reduce budgetary expenditures in the defense and national security sector by 2030, bringing them to 7.969 billion manats (about 4.7 billion dollars). This is stated in the medium-term budget materials published on the website of the country's Ministry of Finance.

According to forecasts, from 2026 to 2029, expenditures in this sector will be reduced by 8.6%. If in 2026 defense spending will amount to 20.9% of the total state budget expenditures, by 2029 this figure is planned to be reduced to 18.4%.

For comparison, the state budget of Azerbaijan for 2025 provides for 8.396 billion manats (about 4.94 billion dollars) for defense and national security.
