Detainee from Artsakh Dies in Armavir Penitentiary

Yesterday, on August 28, Artashes Vardanyan, forcibly displaced from Artsakh, died in the Armavir penitentiary, his lawyer Erik Beglaryan reported.

"Artashes Vardanyan had been complaining about his deteriorating health for a long time, but unfortunately, he was not transferred to a hospital to receive proper medical care," the lawyer wrote. He has appealed to the Human Rights Defender of Armenia and the Prosecutor General.

The detainee died in the hospital, the penitentiary service told ArmeniaSputnik. "On August 28, 2025, at 22:50, due to the deterioration of the health of detainee A.V., born in 1962, held at the 'Armavir' penitentiary institution, an ambulance was called, which transported him to a civilian medical facility. At 23:58, the biological death of A.V. was recorded," the penitentiary service reported.
